About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to join a leading building services consultancy in Manchester. This role will suit a motivated engineer with a background in electrical design, refurbishment, retrofit, and building performance engineering.

As part of the Operational Assets team, you will work on commercial, residential, education, healthcare, retail, and industrial projects, focusing on sustainable design, energy reduction, and net zero strategies. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality electrical design solutions and providing consultancy advice on existing building services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver electrical building services design projects across multiple sectors
  • Undertake detailed electrical design, specification, drawings, and calculations across all RIBA stages
  • Support clients with refurbishment, fit-out, decarbonisation, and energy efficiency projects
  • Provide consultancy services including technical due diligence surveys, dilapidation surveys, condition reports, planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules, asset registers, troubleshooting, EPC assessments, energy optimisation, and net zero strategies
  • Oversee contract administration, site inspections, commissioning, and post-occupancy services
  • Write and deliver technical reports including feasibility studies and issue investigations
  • Support business development by winning work and building long-term client relationships
  • Mentor and manage junior engineers, contributing to team development and succession planning

Requirements

  • Chartered Electrical Engineer or working towards chartership (CEng)
  • Strong background in electrical design engineering for building services
  • Demonstrable experience on existing buildings, refurbishment, and retrofit projects
  • Knowledge of UK building regulations, BS standards, and EU design guides
  • Skilled in performance specification, energy modelling, and sustainable design
  • Strong understanding of data, metering, and building performance systems
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and report-writing skills
  • Proven ability in work winning, client management, and project delivery
