Senior Infrastructure Engineer - Security & Compliance (Contract)

Rate: £550 per day (Outside IR35)
Location: Manchester (Hybrid, on-site as and when required)

Our public sector client in the Greater Manchester area is looking to engage a Senior Infrastructure Engineer on a long-term contract to support a major security and compliance transformation programme. The key goal is to drive alignment with NCSC CAF standards over the next two years - making this a critical and high-impact role within the organisation's wider infrastructure and cyber security landscape.

The successful contractor will join an established internal team and lead the delivery of key infrastructure and architectural components in support of this compliance ambition.

Key Skills & Experience Required:
- Extensive hands-on infrastructure and security engineering experience
- Proven delivery across multiple security frameworks, ideally including previous experience with NCSC CAF controls
- Deep architectural understanding, with solid grounding in Secure by Design and Zero Trust principles
- Ability to embed quickly within an existing team and understand complex infrastructure setups
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of engaging with technical and non-technical stakeholders alike
- Proven ability to self-initiate and create technical processes.
- Creating standards and designs to align with the compliance goals.
- Proven ability to manage and maintain process and technical documentation.
- Advanced knowledge of Secure by design/Zero trust methodologies.
- Demonstrated experience in creating and implementing technical standards and documentation
- A self-starter who can work independently and proactively manage deliverables

Technical Skillset Required:
- Strong Microsoft-based infrastructure knowledge:
o Advanced Active Directory / Entra ID suite experience
o Deep expertise in Windows Server (Hyper-V, Azure Stack HCI, DNS, DHCP, DFS, Storage Spaces Direct)
o Advanced Microsoft 365 troubleshooting and administration (including Defender product suite, Identity, Endpoint, Office, and Cloud)
- Excellent working knowledge of Azure and AWS
- Understanding of encryption techniques and server hardening
- Exposure to Linux (beneficial but not essential)
- Microsoft Cybersecurity Architect certification or equivalent knowledge
