QHSE Manager
Permanent – Days – Irlam – Full-time – Up to £50,000 + Excellent Benefits
A leading engineering and manufacturing organisation, known for supplying precision products into highly regulated industries, is seeking a QHSE Manager to take ownership of their site’s Quality, Health, Safety & Environmental functions. Based in Manchester, this is a key leadership role offering real autonomy, variety, and the chance to drive impactful improvements across the business. This is a hands-on position, combining strategic oversight with operational delivery, and will see you managing both internal teams and external stakeholders across the site. You’ll be responsible for managing and continually improving all onsite QHSE systems and processes to ensure ongoing compliance with legal, customer, and industry standards
Key Responsibilities:
· Lead the site’s Quality, Health, Safety & Environmental activities and manage a small team of QHSE professionals.
· Maintain and develop ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 management systems.
· Oversee creation and maintenance of QHSE procedures, Safe Systems of Work, risk assessments (including DSEAR, COSHH, PUWER, and manual handling), and SOPs.
· Lead customer and supplier non-conformance investigations and drive root cause analysis and corrective actions.
· Champion culture change in safety and quality through mentoring, coaching, toolbox talks, and engagement initiatives.
· Manage statutory inspections, safety audits, occupational health monitoring, and emergency procedures.
· Coordinate the site's internal and external audit programmes.
· Lead QHSE input into PFMEAs and Control Plan development for manufacturing processes.
· Track, analyse, and report on QHSE KPIs and ensure timely close-out of actions arising from inspections, near misses, and safety observations.
· Maintain legal compliance and lead continuous improvement initiatives across the QHSE domain.
· Act as site lead for customer and certification body audits, including management of non-conformances.
· Develop and deliver QHSE training and employee inductions.
· Support the delivery of the company’s annual QHSE objectives and strategic improvement plans.
The Person:
· Proven background in QHSE leadership within a manufacturing environment.
· GRAD IOSH membership (or equivalent professional recognition).
· Lead Auditor certification in ISO 9001 and ISO 45001.
· Knowledge and application of relevant legislation and standards (PUWER, COSHH, DSEAR).
· Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
· Experience with PFMEAs, Control Plans, and non-conformance management.
· Excellent communication and mentoring skills.
· Strong problem-solving, organisational, and leadership capabilities.
Desirable:
· NEBOSH certification (or willingness to obtain).
· AIEMA membership or environmental qualification.
· Familiarity with CDM regulations.
· ILM or Train the Trainer (PETTLS) qualification.
