Meraki Talent is with one of the fastest-growing national firms in the UK, who are looking to make a key strategic hire into their VAT team in Manchester.

Following a series of acquisitions across the North, the firm has been investing heavily in expanding their VAT offering across Newcastle, Leeds, and Manchester. Now, Manchester is a real focus for them and they’re looking to appoint a new an Associate Director to help the build out their VAT offering in the region.

You’ll be backed by a strong technical VAT, but you'll have the opportunity to shape and grow the Manchester VAT team yourself. Long term, there’s a clear progression plan and an ambitious growth strategy already in place.

You’ll be working closely with well-respected figures in the VAT space in North England and a track record of successfully building and scaling VAT teams across the UK.

The Opportunity:

  • A strategic role to build and grow the Manchester VAT offering.
  • Full support from the wider Northern VAT team and national VAT leadership (rest of UK)
  • No immediate people management responsibilities, your focus initially will be on winning work, growing the client base, and establishing the team.
  • Full autonomy to shape the direction and growth of the Manchester VAT function.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Strong VAT background gained in Practice (Big 4, Top 10, or strong mid-tier firms preferred).
  • Industry or HMRC backgrounds considered if you can demonstrate strong client-facing skills and business development experience/skills.
  • Confident networking and representing the firm externally, you will be expected to grow the brand in the local market.
  • Ambitious and entrepreneurial, someone who has potentially hit a ceiling in their current firm and is now looking for a bigger role with real growth potential.
  • Comfortable advising a broad range of clients - the firm is sector agnostic and open to specialists and generalists.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Acting as a trusted adviser to clients on VAT compliance and advisory matters.
  • Leading on business development - using your network to generate new opportunities.
  • Working closely with other senior stakeholders and Partners across the firm to expand the VAT client base.
  • Over time, growing and managing your own local team as the Manchester VAT practice develops.
  • Being part of a wider national VAT team that’s collaborative, supportive, and ambitious.
