Hybrid Health & Safety Officer | Manchester | Up to £35,000 + Benefits

Hybrid working with national travel (including overnight stays) required between March and September, approximately once or twice a week

Role Purpose

To assist with and, where appropriate, lead or facilitate the implementation of Health & Safety management systems to ensure legal compliance and promote safe working practices. The role involves delivering training, providing strategic advice, conducting risk assessments, and performing compliance audits across retail, office, concessions, and warehouse operations.

Health & Safety Officer Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct and review detailed risk assessments across all operational areas including retail, office, and concessions.
  • Carry out internal compliance audits to ensure adherence to legal requirements and company policies.
  • Support and improve the Health & Safety Management System, maintaining all related documentation (e.g., Safe Working Methods, COSHH, manual handling assessments, emergency procedures).
  • Provide training and inductions for new employees and deliver in-person training during national site visits.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents; compile reports, identify trends, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist with the development of Health & Safety Business Plans and project initiatives.
  • Advise on best practices, including contractor management by reviewing Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders (Retail, Distribution, Facilities, Imports, Sales, Product teams) and external bodies (HSE, Local Authorities, solicitors, insurers).
  • Provide Health & Safety support and cover within warehouse/logistics operations when required.
  • Maintain accurate Health & Safety digital records and GDPR-compliant data.
Health & Safety Officer Qualifications & Experience
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate - Essential
  • IOSH membership - desirable
  • First Aid and Fire Marshal certification - desirable
  • Full, clean UK driving licence - Essential
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in Health & Safety within retail, warehousing/logistics, or office environments
  • Proven experience with risk assessments, compliance auditing, and risk management projects
  • Knowledge of fire safety, asbestos, legionella controls, and basic engineering/electrical safety preferred
