I'm looking for a Principal Systems Engineer to join a global Aerospace & Defence business based in Manchester.

About the Role:

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will lead on the development, implementation, and oversight of systems engineering processes, ensuring robust governance and effective assurance activities across all phases of defence and aerospace projects.

This is a pivotal role in ensuring systems are safe, compliant and of the highest quality - helping to meet the demands of our clients (MoD).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage systems engineering life-cycle processes aligned to UK and international standards (e.g. ISO/IEC 15288, DEF-STANs).
  • Establish and maintain governance structures for technical reviews, design maturity and configuration control.
  • Lead assurance activities such as internal audits, compliance reviews and design assessments.
  • Support project teams in tailoring engineering processes to specific programme needs.
  • Provide process guidance and governance oversight across systems engineering teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices and tool-sets.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Degree qualified in Systems Engineering, Aerospace, Electronics or a related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of systems engineering principles and structured life-cycle approaches.
  • Experience working in aerospace, defence or another highly regulated engineering sector.
  • Familiarity with governance and assurance practices in engineering delivery.
  • Confident communicator with experience engaging with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient with engineering tools such as DOORS, Enterprise Architect or similar.

The salary is 55,000 to 65,000 plus benefits and offers hybrid working.
