Shopfloor Operative

As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be at the forefront of building high-quality centrifugal and positive displacement pumps and pumping systems, playing a crucial role in our global operations.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Assemble centrifugal and positive displacement pumps and complete pumping systems based on technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Perform 3-phase motor wiring, including terminal configurations, cable routing, and secure electrical connections in accordance with safety standards.
  • Carry out mechanical fitting, alignment, and coupling of motors and pump components.
  • Inspect components for accuracy, wear, or damage prior to assembly.
  • Complete all required documentation such as assembly checklists and inspection reports.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace in line with health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality assurance teams to troubleshoot and resolve design or assembly issues.
  • Support continuous improvement activities to optimize efficiency, quality, and safety on the shop floor.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in mechanical assembly, ideally within the pump, rotating equipment, or similar manufacturing industry.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with 3-phase motor wiring.
  • Basic understanding of electrical safety and industry best practices.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, torque wrenches, and basic electrical testing instruments.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • High attention to detail, with strong problem-solving and fault-finding abilities.
  • Desirable: Relevant vocational qualifications in electrical or mechanical engineering (e.g., NVQ, City & Guilds).
  • Experience in a lean manufacturing or continuous improvement environment.
  • Forklift and/or crane operation certification (advantageous for handling large assemblies).
