Sonic Summary

info
  • The job is for an Underwriter at a leading MGA owned by a global broking giant, focusing on the Sports market, particularly golf, football, and rugby.
  • Candidates should ideally have a commercial underwriting background with experience in sports insurance, though outstanding Commercial Underwriters are also welcome to apply.
  • The role involves managing relationships with brokers, underwriting new and existing business, and ensuring high levels of service are maintained.
  • A generous basic salary is offered along with a flexible benefits package, including a market-leading pension arrangement.
  • Applicants should have at least a few years of relevant experience and be highly numerate with excellent IT and stakeholder management skills.

Pedigree; When it comes to MGAs, this one is a purebred - owned by a global broking giant, with capacity provided by one of the largest composite insurers in the world, it’s little wonder it can offer a 'best in class’ service to its clientele.

Already commanding a significant portion of the market, especially within the Golf niche, this dynamic business is committing considerable resource (financial and otherwise) to increase its market share further, with a heightened focus on football and rugby clubs, amongst others.

Here, you will be dealing with both renewal and new business cases, with clients coming from both its own broking business, and third-party brokers. You will be dealing with a variety of bespoke products that are geared to the Sports market, such as Commercial Combined, Property, Liability and Specialist products. Duties will include:

  • Managing and maintaining relationships with regional brokers, colleagues and clients across the UK.
  • Identifying opportunities to offer solutions to existing clients / brokers, by evaluating the applicant situation and circumstances and determining insurance risk.
  • Working within your delegated underwriting authority to underwrite both new and existing business.
  • Communicating effectively with senior members of staff to ensure clarity and positive relationships across the business.
  • Putting clients and customers first by working within SLAs and ensuring a high level of service is provided at all times.
  • Liaising with brokers and colleagues to increase profitable relationships, both virtually and in person.
  • Issuing insurance policies by calculating premium rates, as well as negotiating insurance terms and conditions with regional brokers.

Ideally, you will come from a commercial underwriting background, with exposure to writing golf or miscellaneous sports insurance. However, we welcome applications from outstanding Commercial Underwriters (Commercial Combined/ Property/ Casualty) who have a passion for sports, and the ability to quickly pick up the nuances of this fascinating niche. We are also keen to hear from technically-gifted Brokers, especially those who have 'held the pen’ on delegated authority schemes previously. Importantly, we are looking for an Underwriter who IS NOT focused on auto-rated business.

You must be highly numerate, with excellent IT skills. You should also have excellent stakeholder-management skills, and enjoy working to shared goals and objectives.

This is a hybrid role, where you will only be expected in the office a couple of days a week. However, for outstanding candidates who possess the relevant sector knowledge, there is scope to flex further on this - potentially even working 100% remotely.

As well as a generous basic salary, you will receive a fantastic flexible-benefits package that can be tweaked to your own personal circumstances - of particularly note is a market-leading pension arrangement which effectively trebles your own contributions.Aston Charles - a personalised service from industry expertsGeneral Insurance and Financial Services RecruitmentFor more jobs like this, or for more information on how we may be able to help you in your search for a new job, please visit our website
