FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Product Manager to work for our client within the Public sector. This is initially a 6-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role that can be based in Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Blackpool.

We are seeking an experienced and driven Product Manager to lead the development and delivery of digital products within a public sector context. You will play a pivotal role in shaping services that meet user needs, align with policy objectives, and comply with the Government Digital Service (GDS) framework.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on high-impact projects that improve public services and contribute to digital transformation across government departments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end product lifecycle from discovery through to live service and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including service designers, developers, user researchers, and policy experts
  • Ensure products meet user needs and deliver value in line with government priorities
  • Apply GDS principles and service standards throughout product development
  • Manage product backlogs, prioritise features, and define clear roadmaps
  • Engage with stakeholders across government departments to align product goals and secure buy-in
  • Use data and user research to inform product decisions and iterate based on feedback
  • Ensure compliance with accessibility, security, and data protection standards

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Product Manager in a government or public sector environment
  • Strong understanding of the GDS framework, including service assessments, phases (Discovery, Alpha, Beta, Live), and service standards
  • Experience working in agile, multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Ability to translate complex policy or technical requirements into user-focused solutions
  • Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Trello, Confluence, or similar
