Richer Sounds are the UKs leading Hi-Fi, Home Cinema and TV specialists, and one of the largest Employee-Owned businesses in the UK. We are looking foran enthusiastic Front end, mid-level, BigCommerce Developer to join our in-house e-commerce team based in Manchester. You will be working alongside our current developers to enhance our BigCommerce site.

Work will include a variety of tasks from ongoing maintenance tasks, bug fixing, making performance improvements, to planning and developing enhancements and new features, QA testing, and documentation, with the ultimate goal of improving our customer experience.

You will also collaborate with and provide technical support to our team of designers to help spec out new, or improved features and designs. The role will require working with BigCommerce, BCs native Page Builder, as well as other third party apps including Shogun and Klevu.


Role Responsibilities:

  • Develop new user-facing features
  • Build reusable code and libraries for future use
  • Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs
  • Optimise applications for maximum speed and scalability
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders
  • Evaluating requirements, specifications, and code - analysis, problem definition & solution

  • Code reviewing & initial QA of peers work

Who we are looking for:

Essential Skills

  • Experience with BigCommerce, including Stencil.
  • Good understanding of HTML, XML, including styling using CSS, Sass / SCSS.
  • Good working knowledge of Handlebars.js.
  • Previous experience with dynamic, responsive sites.
  • Strong understanding of JavaScript.
  • Good understanding of debugging techniques, browser rendering behaviour and performance.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with Google Analytics and Google Ads.
  • Competent using PHP.
  • Working knowledge of libraries / toolkits such as JQuery, JQuery UI, Require.js, Grunt and Gulp.js
  • OOP & functional programming.
  • Asynchronous control flow, partial page updates, AJAX.
  • Familiarity with code versioning tools (Git)
  • Experience using JSON and REST/GraphQL APIs.
  • Experience using GCP / AWS environments.
