- Provide physical and emotional care and support to young people
- Support with education, life skills and health needs
- Support with daily skills and get the young people involved in these duties
- Provide practical help, advice and guidance on issues affecting them
- Work with young people with challenging behaviour, to affect change and positive outcomes
- Act as an advocate for the young people
- Listen to the young people’s views and wishes and act on their feedback
- Contribute to and implement childcare plans and risk assessments
- Liaise and work effectively with colleagues, other agencies and service users in the interests of the young people
- Ensure that managers are informed of significant matters arising within the home
- Keep and maintain accurate records of work
- Attend meetings, reviews and conferences where necessary
- UK Driving License, access to a vehicle, business insurance
- Level 3 Diploma in residential child care desirable
- Must have experience of working with looked after children, experience of working in a child's residential home desirable
- Must have an understanding of the safeguarding issues which may impact on children in care
- Must have an understanding of physical, emotional, cultural, racial and individual needs in a residential setting
- Basic knowledge of the Children Act 1989 (and subsequent amendments) and other field related legislation
- Enhanced Child DBS registered to the update service
