Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Aerospace & Defence

Marlow Up to £65,000 DOE Benefits

A leading name in aerospace innovation is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to take ownership of complex, high-integrity design projects that support global defence and civil aviation programmes.

This is a technically senior role with real influence. You’ll be responsible for full lifecycle mechanical design, from initial concepts through to final delivery, on a range of mission-critical products used in airborne environments.

The Opportunity

You’ll work on the development of aerospace systems, leading design activity and supporting the wider engineering team. Expect a fast-paced, collaborative environment where your expertise will directly shape high-performance solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver detailed mechanical designs using 2D/3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Conduct FEA and CFD simulations to validate performance and structural integrity
  • Act as Lead Engineer on key projects, with responsibility for cost, schedule, and quality
  • Produce engineering documentation and drawings in line with BS8888 and ISO standards
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and drive continuous improvement
  • Support legacy product upgrades, tooling improvements, and obsolescence management

About You

  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline)
  • 8 years’ experience in aerospace or defence engineering
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)
  • Proven track record of delivering mechanical design solutions through the full product lifecycle
  • Strong understanding of materials, finishes, and environmental factors
  • Confident using simulation tools (FEA/CFD) to influence and validate designs
  • Comfortable leading projects and working cross-functionally in a multi-disciplinary team

Desirable Experience

  • Knowledge of composite materials and manufacturing techniques
  • SolidWorks CAD proficiency
  • Familiarity with requirements management and project engineering
