Macildowie's Public Sector Team are working with a large Council in the East Midlands, who are looking for an experienced Finance Business Partner to join their high-performing Finance Business Partnering team.

The Role:

As a Finance Business Partner, you'll be at the heart of strategic financial planning, working closely with service departments to provide expert advice, analysis and insights. You'll be a critical friend to decision-makers, helping to drive forward the Council's Medium Term Financial Strategy and transformation agenda. The roles will either support the Capital and Revenue function or work within Adults.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a trusted advisor to service leaders, elected Members, and senior management teams.
  • Provide strategic financial insight to influence and support effective decision making.
  • Drive continuous improvement within the finance function, ensuring compliance and customer-focused delivery.
  • Translate complex financial data into meaningful analysis that informs strategy.
  • Lead and support initiatives that deliver efficiency and improved service outcomes.
  • Collaborate with departments to develop robust financial and performance reporting tools.
  • Ensure effective year-end processes and oversee key financial returns and submissions.
  • Mentor and lead finance team members where required.

What We're Looking For:

  • Qualified Accountant (e.g., CIPFA, ACCA, CIMA, ACA) or equivalent experience.
  • Strong track record in business partnering, ideally within a local government or complex public sector setting.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and challenge senior stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in financial planning, budget management and financial reporting.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to link financial information to operational outcomes.
