Interim Finance Business Partner - Local Authority

We are currently working with a local authority in the East Midlands seeking an Interim Finance Business Partner with strong experience of capital accounting to join their team and provide high-quality financial advice and support across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ownership of designated financial areas, ensuring compliance with both local and national standards.
  • Act as a strategic Business Advisor to service areas, supporting effective service delivery and decision-making.
  • Provide expert financial advice on areas such as Treasury Management, Capital, and Collection Fund.
  • Assist with budget setting, forecasting, and year-end closedown, including completion of financial statements and statutory returns.
  • Analyse the financial impact of legislative changes and report findings to senior finance leaders.
  • Drive improvements in financial systems and processes across the authority.
  • Support a more commercial approach within service areas, including business case development for alternative delivery models.
  • Lead and deliver financial training and mentor junior finance staff.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Accountant (e.g. CIPFA, ACCA, ACA, CIMA) with significant post-qualification experience in local government
  • Previous and up to date capital accounting experience within a local authority
  • Strong understanding of local authority finance, governance, and statutory requirements.
  • Proven experience in financial business partnering, supporting senior stakeholders, and managing budgets.
  • Ability to interpret legislation, advise on complex financial matters, and produce high-quality reports and analysis.
