  • Our client, a well-regarded construction business based in the East Midlands, is seeking an experienced Financial Controller due to international promotion within the company.
  • The successful candidate will support the CFO and Group MD in a highly commercial role, managing a finance team of eight and overseeing monthly management accounts and cash flow forecasting.
  • Candidates must be formally qualified (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with 2-3 years of post-qualification experience, ideally in a Finance Leadership position within the construction industry.
  • The role requires strong IT literacy, particularly in Advanced MS Excel, and experience with industry systems such as COINS or EQUE2 is advantageous.
  • In return, the client offers a competitive salary ranging from £65,000 to £85,000, with additional benefits including a car allowance and a bonus potential that could increase total earnings to over £100,000 annually.

Our client is a well-regarded business operating with the construction industry, with a East Midlands based Head Office servicing the wider Midlands area with revenues in excess of £150m pa with impressive growth expected over the next 3 years.

As a result of international promotion, FRS have been enlisted to recruit a experienced Financial Controller to join the business.

The successful candidate will operate as the No 2 in Finance and Support the CFO and Group MD in a highly commercial role assist with the below

  • Partnering with the Finance Director, deputising when needed whilst owning daily management of the team
  • Responsible for the monthly management accounts, including a detailed profit loss and balance sheet analysis
  • Investigate and explain variances in the accounts compared to forecast
  • Performing monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Preparation of cash flow forecasting to submit to Group Treasury including commentary
  • Weekly KPI reporting - including sales performance and short-term cash flow
  • Manage a finance team of 8 including reviewing KPI’s
  • Manage annual audit and preparation of statutory returns
  • Reviewing and reporting weekly sales, overdue exchanges, unreserved stock plots, plot handover status, build stage status
  • Participate and lead when needed in key meetings such as weekly sales build and CVR reviews
  • Manage the Housing Association retention process and recovery of monies
  • Account, forecast and report on cost excesses/savings to enable robust decision making
  • Proactively partnering with managers/directors to streamline processes and tighten controls
  • Deputising for the FD in key operational meetings as and when required
  • Developing and improving the ERP system (EQUE2) and processes to support operational efficiency
  • Preparation and submission of HMRC returns and any relevant queries arising
  • Processing and submission of ONS statistical returns and any queries arising
  • Streamlining existing processes and implementing processes that add value to the business
  • Ensuring processes and procedures are complied with and efficiencies are made
  • Managing the annual insurance renewal process and claims throughout the year
  • Responsible for collating, submitting, reviewing and approving the payroll and pension

The ideal candidate will be formally qualified (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with 2/3 Years PQE and ideally have previous experience gained within a Finance Leadership position (Finance Manager / Financial Controller / Head of Finance)

Previous experience gained within the Construction Industry is essential with demonstrated knowledge of CIS / CVR's etc.

A good level of IT Literacy to include Advanced MS Excel is key with knowledge of Industry Systems and Forecasting Tools such as COINS / EQUE2 / Power BI) being a major advantage.

This position is a highly commercial and outward facing position, as such excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to business partner with wider business areas / Directors (Commercial / Sales / Construction Directors)

In return my client is able to offer a highly competitive basic salary based on experience (£65,000 to £85,000) coupled with Car / Car Allowance and sizable bonus earning potential (20%-30%) regularly paid annually and scope to earn much more giving a OTE annual salary package in excess of £100k
