Lead Senior Authorised Person - Gas Storage

Astute's Power team is partnering with a leading Energy company to recruit a Lead Senior Authorised Person for a Gas Storage site in Cheshire.

Responsibilities and duties of the Lead Senior Authorised Person role

As the Lead SAP you will:

• Prepare and issue site safety documentation.
• Prepare plant and equipment for maintenance, including draining, venting, purging of high-pressure gas systems, and isolating high-voltage (33kV) electrical systems.
• Manage the permit office and its administration, including maintaining the site's safety management systems.
• Plan, resource, and help deliver the maintenance plan by engaging with engineering and production teams.
• Provide training to other site Senior Authorised Persons and staff (both internal and contractors).
• Provide guidance and governance to ensure site-wide compliance with safety rules.
• Design and implement safe isolations by interpreting P&IDs, loop diagrams, and electrical drawings.
• Deliver both planned and outage maintenance activities, ensuring safe and efficient execution.
• Promote and maintain an excellent safety culture across the site.
• Support continuous improvement through governance, feedback, and constructive challenge of existing practices.

Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:

• Authorised SAP with at least 3 years' in a similar role.
• Experience of working within a Safe System of Work (SSOW).
• Ability to interpret P&IDs, instrument loop diagrams, and electrical drawings to design isolations.
• Strong IT proficiency for documentation, permit systems, and reporting.
• Capability to plan, prioritise, and independently deliver maintenance and outage work.
• Previous exposure to petro-chem, oil & gas, or equivalent heavy industry

• Methodical, detail-oriented, and conscientious in approach.
• Flexible in working times and adaptable to operational needs.
• Confident communicator, able to work both independently and collaboratively, with the courage to challenge constructively.

• Starting salary of 60,000 - 70,000
