Financial Controller

Location: Milton Keynes (Onsite/Hybrid)

Employment Type: Full Time (37.5 hours per week)

Our client is seeking a dynamic and experienced Financial Controller to lead their financial operations and help drive their charitable impact across Milton Keynes. This is a vital leadership role reporting directly to the Chief Executive, with influence across strategic planning, compliance, and financial sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Operations & Reporting

  • Oversee all financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, payroll, and fund movement.
  • Prepare timely and accurate internal and external financial reports.
  • Lead annual salary reviews and monthly payroll in liaison with relevant authorities.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with financial legislation and regulatory bodies (e.g., Companies House, Charity Commission).
  • Liaise with auditors and manage statutory returns.

Strategic Financial Planning

  • Develop, implement, and monitor budgets and forecasts to support organisational growth.
  • Identify and manage financial risks and ensure the long-term financial health of the Foundation.

Team & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead, support and develop the finance team.
  • Present financial information clearly to internal and external stakeholders including the Board and Committees.
  • Contribute to broader Community Foundation initiatives and share best practices nationally.

Process & Systems Improvement

  • Continuously improve financial systems, processes, and controls to enhance accuracy and efficiency.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

  • A professional accountancy qualification (e.g., CIMA, ACA, ACCA) is essential.

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Proven experience producing accounts for a charitable organisation.
  • Strong background in strategic planning, team leadership, and cross-team collaboration.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong analytical and reporting skills with the ability to explain complex financial information clearly.
  • Advanced IT skills including Office 365, accounting software (e.g., SAGE), and CRM databases.
  • Confident in presenting to both professional and non-technical audiences.
