Our client has a permanent vacancy for an Environmental & Sustainability Lead. You will champion Environmental and Sustainability improvements, whilst also ensuring they comply with Environmental Legislation and maintain their ISO14001 Environmental Management System.

You will lead the established Environmental Committee, continue the Carbon Reduction journey, maintain their Carbon Neutral status, and work with global colleagues to support SDG, ESG, CSRD and future Net Zero ambitions. You will continue to drive recycling waste opportunities and reducing new packaging purchases.

This is a dynamic role assessing the latest Environmental Legislative changes, managing legal reporting requirements and responding to ever changing business needs or onsite incidents and concerns. You would be driving companywide activities such as Energy Usage Reduction or Electricity sub-metering, whilst engaging with senior leadership, R&D, Production and Sales employees, and essential suppliers/contractors, in an advisory role or promoting sustainability goals, and as such be an effective communicator and approachable.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week; 8.30am - 4.45 (Mon – Thurs), pm on Friday

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the impact of all new legislation affecting the manufacturing industry and ensure communication and adherence of all requirements
  • Ensure that all environmental legal submissions such as Waste Packaging are completed and submitted by the legal deadlines
  • Use & promote the use of the Information Management systems including but not limited to BSI Entropy and Solution Host
  • Responsible for chairing the Environmental committee and ensuring timely conclusion of actions and activities
  • Ensure that the carbon footprint is reported in line with SECR requirements and to a standard that maintains the company’s carbon neutral status and develop Scope 3 reporting elements
  • Responsible for ensuring that the company complies with ESOS reporting, or potentially ISO50001
  • Lead Waste Management within the business through ensuring suitable waste contracts for all waste streams and facilitating education around the practical methods of complying with the waste hierarchy
  • Required to have a working understanding of ISO Management Systems, especially with regards to ISO 14001
  • Responsible for identifying and driving environmental improvement projects as part of Integrated Management System objectives
  • Assist the Quality Manager with maintaining the internal audit schedule

Qualifications and Experience:

• Environmental NEBOSH certificate, Environmental/Sustainability/Science Degree or equivalent qualification

• Implementing robust environmental legislation monitoring, controls and reporting processes

• Internal Auditor training and experience

• 3+ years’ experience
