Production Engineer | Milton Keynes | up to £50,000 | Permanent The Opportunity

A leading rail services provider, specialising in the overhaul, refurbishment, and maintenance of rolling stock, is seeking a diligent and technically focused Production Engineer. This is a critical role within the Engineering department, tasked with providing essential technical support to the production floor. You will be instrumental in ensuring efficient, safe, and high-quality task execution by developing and implementing streamlined production processes and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop production processes and workflows to optimise efficiency and reduce labour costs.
  • Review technical drawings and specifications to define components and removal/refitment procedures.
  • Compile detailed material requirements, route cards, and process sheets, ensuring compliance with customer quality and Railway Group Standards.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement tooling and equipment upgrades to improve productivity.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments (e.g., FMEA) on both new and existing manufacturing/refurbishment processes.
  • Support cost reduction activities by assisting with make vs. buy assessments and providing estimating support for future contract bids.
The Candidate:

You are an experienced engineer with a background in process improvement, ideally within heavy engineering, manufacturing, or the rail sector. You must hold an HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline. A strong grasp of continuous improvement techniques, the ability to read technical drawings, and experience creating detailed production documentation are essential. You must be proactive, commercially aware, and ready to act as an agent for positive change.
