We are excited to present an excellent opportunity for an experienced and dynamic educator to join a thriving secondary school in Milton Keynes as Head of Science. This permanent position will commence in September 2025, offering the chance to lead and shape a committed Science department within a supportive and forward-thinking educational environment.
About the Role:
As Head of Science, you will take the strategic and operational lead of the Science faculty, ensuring the highest standards of teaching, learning, and achievement across all key stages. You will be responsible for curriculum planning, staff development, performance monitoring, and fostering a culture of academic excellence and curiosity within the sciences.
The successful candidate will inspire both students and staff through strong leadership, a clear vision, and a deep passion for science education. This is an outstanding opportunity to make a real impact and contribute to the continued success of the school.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Science department with confidence, vision, and integrity
- Oversee the delivery of an engaging and ambitious curriculum across KS3-KS5
- Line manage and support a team of subject specialists within Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
- Monitor and evaluate departmental performance through assessment data and lesson observations
- Promote high standards of teaching and learning
- Foster a positive learning environment where all students are encouraged to achieve their full potential
- Collaborate with senior leaders to drive whole-school improvement
Requirements:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) - Essential
- Recent UK teaching experience within the Science specialism - Essential
- Previous experience as a Head of Science or in a departmental leadership role - Highly desirable
- A clear, enhanced DBS check on the update service or willingness to apply
- Strong communication, organisational, and leadership skills
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
