Lead Platform Engineer - Hybrid Milton Keynes

As the Lead Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and optimisation of our cloud infrastructure, with a strong focus on automation, scalability, and security. You'll play a critical role in enabling our engineering teams to deliver software efficiently by building and maintaining robust platform capabilities in Microsoft Azure, using tools such as Terraform, Azure DevOps, and Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and manage Azure infrastructure using Terraform (advanced modules, state management, workspaces, backend config).
  • Lead integration of infrastructure-as-code into CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).
  • Provide architectural guidance on the use of Azure Terraform provider capabilities and limitations.
  • Develop and manage ARM templates for resource provisioning.
  • Support and manage container orchestration environments using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Administer and optimise core Azure services including VNets, VMs, Storage Accounts, App Services, etc.
  • Implement and maintain Azure AD, RBAC, Key Vault, and follow cloud security best practices.
  • Promote and manage Git workflows across engineering teams (branching, merging, PRs).
  • Automate operations and deployment using PowerShell, Azure CLI, and Bash.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to a small team of platform engineers.
  • Collaborate with application development and security teams to drive best practices.
  • Monitor and optimise cloud spend to ensure cost-effective infrastructure usage.

Your Experience:

  • Proven experience in a similar role, ideally within a cloud-native or hybrid environment.
  • Expertise in Azure cloud services, security, networking, and automation.
  • Strong knowledge of DevOps practices, cloud governance, and infrastructure monitoring.
  • Clear communicator with a collaborative mindset.
  • Experience in a regulated or compliance-driven environment is a plus.
