The Opportunity An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Engineering Manager with a strong civil and structural background to join our project delivery team. This role offers the chance to lead engineering activities on high profile infrastructure projects of national importance. You will oversee multidisciplinary teams, ensuring technical excellence, compliance, and successful delivery within a regulated environment
The Role Full time position – 40 hours per week (Monday – Friday). Based at Sellafield/West lakes (Cumbria), with flexible working arrangements in line with project and client needs. Expected duration: 6 months (with potential for extension depending on project requirements).
Your duties and responsibilities will be
- Lead and manage civil/structural engineering input across the full project lifecycle, including FEED (Front End Engineering Design), EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction), construction, and commissioning.
- Develop, review, and approve engineering deliverables, ensuring alignment with project objectives, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical leadership to project engineers and designers, fostering collaboration across disciplines (civil, mechanical, electrical, nuclear).
- Oversee structural analysis, design calculations, and compliance with Eurocodes, British Standards, and nuclear safety regulations.
- Support Project Managers in programme planning, risk management, and resource allocation.
- Ensure engineering activities comply with NEC3/4 contract requirements and project governance frameworks.
- Act as the key interface with clients, stakeholders, and contractors, providing clear communication on technical issues.
You will have the following qualifications & experience
- Proven experience managing multi discipline engineering teams during FEED and EPC stages of major nuclear, defence, or civil infrastructure projects.
- Strong civil/structural engineering background with demonstrable leadership in regulated environments.
- Degree (or equivalent) in Civil/Structural Engineering; Chartered Engineer status strongly preferred.
- In depth knowledge of Eurocodes, British Standards, and nuclear safety regulations.
- Familiarity with NEC3/4 contracts and project governance frameworks.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Security Clearance (SC).
