Hourly Rate: £37- £40 p/h through an Umbrella company

Role Purpose:

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Rail Engineer Assessor to join our flexible team at a specialist land-based college. This role is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality practical and theoretical instruction and assessments for learners across a variety of engineering disciplines including Rail, Horticulture, heavy goods.

Key Responsibilities: Rail Engineer Assessor

  • Develop and deliver engineering curriculum content tailored to meet learner and industry needs.
  • Facilitate engaging practical sessions, classroom-based theory, and assessments aligned with industry standards.
  • Conduct vocational assessments at learner workplaces and off-campus locations, ensuring compliance with awarding body and internal quality standards.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to support learner progression and development.
  • Utilise digital tools to manage course administration, assessment, and learner tracking effectively.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary teaching team to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Apply flexible skills across a broad range of engineering specialisms within the department.
  • Support and mentor learners using diverse approaches to maximise individual achievement.
  • Contribute to internal quality assurance processes, ensuring consistency in delivery and assessment.
  • Engage with industry partners and employers to maintain curriculum relevance and enhance learner employability.
  • Help identify and develop training resources and equipment aligned with industry practices.
  • Support budget planning and cost-effective course delivery strategies in collaboration with management.
  • Actively participate in marketing, recruitment, and employer engagement activities.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development and maintain industry-relevant qualifications.
  • Uphold and promote health and safety, safeguarding, equality, diversity, and data protection policies.

Essential Qualities:

  • Demonstrable experience in engineering training or teaching (ideally with apprentices or vocational learners).
  • Strong practical and theoretical knowledge in relevant engineering disciplines.
  • Recognised teaching or training qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality learning experiences and assessments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a learner-centered approach.
  • Effective digital literacy and use of administrative learning platforms.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection within an educational setting.
