Level 1 Teaching Assistant

We are looking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic Level 1 Teaching Assistant to join our specialist team at a School in Pendle, a school committed to providing a safe, supportive, and stimulating environment for pupils with a range of special educational needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide support to pupils with additional needs, under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO

  • Assist with classroom tasks, learning activities, and the preparation of resources

  • Support individual pupils and small groups to engage in their learning

  • Help promote student's independence, confidence, and self-esteem

  • Contribute to the physical and emotional care of pupils, including personal care where required

  • Use a range of communication strategies to meet individual pupil needs (e.g., Makaton, PECS - training can be provided)

  • Encourage positive behaviour and help maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment

  • Support during unstructured times such as playtime and lunch, promoting social interaction

The ideal candidate will:
  • Have a genuine interest in working with children and young people with SEN

  • Be calm, nurturing, and resilient in a busy school environment

  • Work effectively as part of a team and follow instructions confidently

  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Be willing to undertake relevant training (e.g., Team Teach, safeguarding, communication strategies)

  • (Desirable) Have some experience in an SEN or care setting
