Head of Finance

Mansfield / Hybrid - 2 days minimum (Mon / Tues) in office

Up to £100k + bonus / benefits

Introduction:

We are delighted to be partnering with the Mansfield Building Society to recruit a new senior role to their Finance team, a Head of Finance. The Mansfield are a modern Building Society with roots in its heartland in the East Midlands, but with a growing national presence and are part-way through a business transformation that includes the set-up of a new banking platform.

Reporting in to the Finance Director, in the immediate term the candidate will be driving the affairs of the Finance Function as well as acting as a customer in to the transformation program. Beyond this the candidate will take forward the whole Finance Function of the Society autonomously, consulting on strategic direction with the Finance Director and other Executives. The Society are seeking a caliber of individual who is willing to continue working on their personal and career growth, such that they can act as succession for the Finance Director in the longer term.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leadership & Strategic Influence: build and lead a motivated, engaged, and capable Finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement whilst engaging regularly with the Executive Committee, Board, and key governance forums (e.g., MALCO, Product Committee, Audit Committee), providing commercial insight and challenge.
  • Financial Strategy, Planning & Analysis: lead corporate planning, forecasting, and budgeting processes to shape strategy and provide strategic insights through scenario analysis and stress testing as well as guiding product pricing strategy and analysis.
  • Financial Operations & Control: oversee all core finance operations including financial reporting, tax, payroll (in partnership with HR), banking operations, and general ledger accuracy.
  • Prudential Risk: work in consultation with the FD and other Executives to oversee and manage capital, liquidity and interest rate risks, owning and developing key risk frameworks including ICAAP, ILAAP, Recovery Plan, and liquidity stress testing.
  • Regulatory Reporting: ensure timely, accurate delivery of all required regulatory reports (FCA, PRA, BSA, BoE), maintaining process documentation and horizon-scan for evolving regulatory requirements.
  • Business Partnering & Continuous Improvement: act as a key business partner in cross-functional initiatives and projects (including the business transformation programme).
  • Deputising: act as Deputy to the Finance Director, including attendance at Board and Executive meetings where needed.

Key skills & competencies required:

  • Qualified Accountant with proven leadership experience
  • Knowledge of accounting regulations, PRA regulations and a good understanding of how a building society P&L and balance sheet work, gained from within a similar business
  • A 'Change mindset’, someone who can identify where technology or process improvement can deliver improvements to the Finance Team
