Personal Tax Semi Senior - SME Accountancy Firm - Newbury, Berkshire

Salary up to £40,000 + Study Package + Benefits

Are you a Private Client Tax Accountant who's tired of being just another cog in a big-firm machine? Fancy working somewhere where your ideas matter, your clients know your name, and your work actually makes a difference?

You’ll be joining a well-established, forward-thinking SME accountancy firm based near Newbury, Berkshire - managing a diverse portfolio of individuals, business owners, and the odd trust or two — all while enjoying the flexibility and close-knit culture of a smaller firm.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Manage a portfolio of private individual clients including HNWIs, partnerships & trusts
  • Prepare and submit Self-Assessment Tax Returns.
  • Capital Gains Tax reporting for HMRC
  • Deal with income from multiple sources: employment, rental properties, dividends, capital gains, pensions, and overseas income
  • Ensure all deadlines are met and filings are squeaky clean
  • Assist with advising clients on tax planning strategies to reduce liabilities including inheritance tax, capital gains tax, and residency/domicile issues.
  • Keeping up to date with UK tax legislation changes
  • Spot opportunities for additional services or business development — it’s not just about compliance, it's about adding value

What We’re Looking For:

  • A strong background in personal tax (likely studying towards ATT/CTA qualified or aiming to do so)
  • Comfortable managing your own portfolio and building solid client relationships.
  • A curious mind with a knack for solving puzzles (like why a client has two Swiss pensions and a flat in Ibiza and how best to position such circumstances for tax purposes!).
  • Someone who thrives in a small team where autonomy is a given, and initiative is expected.

What You’ll Get:

  • Basic salary up to £40,000 depending on experience
  • Full Study Support Package
  • Close collaboration with partners and real progression opportunities
  • Supportive, down-to-earth team
  • Free parking, social events, CPD support and a voice at the table

If you’re looking to grow your tax career with a firm offering you real client impact without the corporate red tape, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.
