Job Title: Finance Officer - PermanentLocation: Newcastle upon Tyne

Overview:My public sector client is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Finance Officer to join their Finance Department. This role supports the effective financial operation of the organisation by ensuring strong financial controls, accurate payroll administration, and the efficient processing of financial transactions.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Maintain financial accuracy and ensure full compliance with relevant policies and procedures.

  • Deliver professional payroll support and advice to staff across the organisation.

  • Assist with the coordination and oversight of key financial activities, including budgeting, expenditure tracking, and financial reporting.

  • Process payments and invoices, ensuring timely accounts payable and receivable operations.

  • Support internal financial audits and contribute to continuous improvement in financial processes.

Person Specification:
  • Hold a Level 2 certificate in accounting (such as AAT) or be working toward a relevant financial qualification.

  • Demonstrable experience in a finance role, preferably within the public or not-for-profit sector.

  • Hands-on experience with payroll systems and procedures (familiarity with Sage 50 Payroll and Sage 50 Accounts is advantageous).

  • Proficiency in managing invoicing, payment schedules, and financial documentation.
