Business Development Manager - Leading Full-Service Law Firm

I'm currently working with a highly respected full-service law firm based in Newcastle upon Tyne that is seeking to appoint an experienced and strategic Business Development Manager. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a firm with a rich 125-year history, a national client base, and a reputation for delivering high-quality, partner-led legal services.

With over 200 professionals-including 35 partners and more than 120 fee-earners-the firm serves a diverse client portfolio ranging from large corporates and owner-managed businesses to healthcare professionals and rural enterprises. The firm is deeply embedded in its local community and is committed to values-driven growth, collaboration, and excellence.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Head of Business Development & Marketing, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the firm's business development strategy. You'll work closely with partners and fee-earners to identify opportunities, build client relationships, and drive growth across key sectors and practice areas.

Key Responsibilities:

Support the development and implementation of firmwide and departmental business development plans

Lead on client targeting and relationship-building initiatives

Collaborate with partners and teams to identify new business opportunities and cross-referral potential

Act as the BD lead on client development and work-winning projects

Contribute to the firm's market positioning and brand visibility strategies

Ensure alignment with the firm's core values: Professionalism, Teamwork, Excellent Client Service, and People Development

? About You

Proven experience in a business development or client relationship role within professional services (could be legal, accountancy and insurance, IT and technology, marketing and advertising etc)

Strong commercial awareness and a strategic mindset

Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities and work to tight deadlines

High attention to detail and a proactive, collaborative approach

Flexibility to support occasional out-of-hours events or deadlines
