Reed Education are supporting a fantastic school in Newcastle who are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and proactive SEMH Teaching Assistant to support a group of pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs in a nurturing primary school environment. The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and external professionals to provide tailored support that promotes emotional well-being, positive behaviour, and academic progress.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
- Implement individual behaviour and learning plans under the guidance of the SENCO and class teacher.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment that encourages emotional regulation and resilience.
- Use de-escalation strategies and positive behaviour management techniques effectively.
- Support pupils in developing social skills, self-esteem, and coping strategies.
- Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour, and emotional well-being.
- Liaise with parents/carers and external agencies as required.
- Assist in the preparation of learning materials and classroom resources.
- Promote inclusion and ensure equal opportunities for all pupils.
Essential:
- Experience working with children with SEMH needs or in a similar role.
- Strong understanding of child development and emotional well-being.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond to challenging behaviour with empathy and consistency.
- A team player with a flexible and positive attitude.
Desirable:
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ, or equivalent).
- Training in Team Teach, MAPA, or other behaviour management strategies.
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
