Aviation Engineering Lecturer

Location: Newcastle Upon Tyne

Salary: up to £39,310 (depending on experience) plus benefits including Teacher pension

Hours: Monday - Friday

Main Purpose of Role:The primary purpose of this role is the formal delivery of aerospace engineering lessons for both the further education level 3 BTEC Diploma and the higher educational Honours Degree BSc courses delivered by the Newcastle Aviation Academy. Experience in delivering the aircraft mechanical aspects at these levels would be desirable.

This post requires a strong aviation engineering background and the candidate must have extensive knowledge and working experience of either civilian or military aerospace engineering industries and their regulations. This will ensure that all learners get the best possible service from a knowledgeable and capable lecturer.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for the programme leadership of the courses allocated to them and will be responsible for all teaching duties including setting and marking of assessments using paper and online systems, quality cycle paperwork, tutorial commitments and all other associated duties as directed by management as required.

Key Responsibilities:

Formal lesson delivery of all aerospace engineering further education and honours degree higher educational courses.

Liaison with operators and industry partners to establish opportunities for learner experiences across the provision.

Advise, guide and support learners to identify and achieve their learning aims.

Write learner subject reports which clearly articulate how improvement can be made and sustained.

Fully comply with college processes.

Use, access and update MIS data, including registers.

Proactively contribute to curriculum and self-development (including CPD, research and scholarly activity) aligned to current and future business need and supporting growth of the curriculum.

Demonstrate consistently the positive attitudes, values and behaviours of the organisation.

Programme Leader Specific:

Duties undertaken by the postholder include being the lead academic/teacher for a designated course(s) and/or course tutor to designated courses and groups of students. These duties will extend to (but are not limited to) responsibility for:

Identification and assessment of students’ needs and progress.

Plan, design and develop high quality learning programmes and sessions that drive student progress.

Deliver high quality learning and teaching programmes and activities that underpin positive outcomes for students.

Design and implement innovative assessment strategies to assess learning and students’ achievements.

Provide high quality feedback to students to drive improvement.

Undertake assessment, verification and self-assessment processes in line with agreed NCG / Divisional Quality procedures.

Monitor the quality performance of the programme(s), making timely and effective interventions to ensure positive impact for students.

Establish and maintain productive relationships with employers, parents / carers to promote the work of the College and the progress of students.

Lead programme teaching team(s) to deliver a high-quality experience that meets quality and curriculum KPIs and positive student outcomes.

Ensure the effective recruitment, attendance, retention, achievement, progression and destinations of students.

Support recruitment and marketing activities.

Monitor, evaluate and improve the quality and effectiveness of personal practice and that of learning programmes and sessions.

Standard Responsibilities for all positions in NCG

Participate in any staff review/performance management processes involving the identifying and meeting of training needs for self and others.

Take appropriate responsibility to ensure the health and safety of self and others.

Pursue the achievement and integration of equal opportunities throughout all activities.

Undertake any other tasks and responsibilities appropriate to the level of this post.

Requirements:

Essential

Degree in a related subject area or qualified to the industry-recognised standard in the subject area

Post-16 Teaching Qualification (Diploma in Education and Training (DET) or equivalent, e.g. Cert Ed. Foundation Degree, etc., or, PGCE) upon appointment or willingness to achieve within an agreed timeframe

Commitment to continuous professional development (which can be evidenced)

English and maths at Level 2 (GSCE / O Level, Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent upon appointment or willingness to achieve within an agreed timeframe

Experience of utilising learning technologies, ILP’s, tracking processes and monitoring systems to support and track learners to progress and achieve.

Proven track record of relevant professional / vocational expertise

Desirable:

Experience of effective programme leadership in FE, HE and / or apprenticeships.

Planning and delivering tutorials that meet learners’ pastoral and academic needs and effectively support their progress
