Senior Town Planner

We're recruiting a Senior Town Planning Consultant to join a well-established, employee-owned planning consultancy at their Newcastle office. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse mix of projects across a wide range of sectors including battery storage and renewable energy large infrastructure, collaborating with leading professionals in the field.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Senior Town Planner, you'll play a key role in delivering high-quality planning advice and services. You'll contribute to major projects, manage your own case load of small to medium-sized applications, and provide direct advice to clients. From report drafting and planning submissions to development plan representations and engagement with planning authorities, your input will be critical to shaping successful outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
路Supporting senior colleagues and directors on large-scale and strategic planning projects
路Managing and delivering small to medium planning applications independently
路Conducting detailed research and analysis
路Preparing planning appraisals and technical reports
路Writing and submitting planning applications
路Liaising with planning officers, stakeholders, and third parties
路Building strong relationships with clients and collaborators
路Developing creative, evidence-based planning solutions
路Taking financial and project responsibility from inception to completion
路Staying current with planning policy developments and best practice
路Representing the consultancy at external meetings and events
What We're Looking For
We're seeking someone with a strong professional grounding and a proactive mindset. Ideal candidates will bring:
路A degree in town planning or a related discipline
路5-10 years' experience in either the public or private sector
路Solid understanding of planning principles and UK planning systems
路Excellent written and verbal communication skills
路A problem-solving approach with strong critical thinking abilities
路The ability to deliver high-quality work under pressure
路Confidence in liaising with clients and stakeholders
