Project Support Worker with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the empathetic ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with men returning to the community from prison, is required for an organisation based in Newcastle upon Tyne.
NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
No previous Residential Support Work experience is required as training will be provided. Candidates will need to be comfortable engaging with male residents who are involved at varying stages in the criminal justice system.

WORKING HOURS: 30 hours per week on a 7 week rota - additional shifts available on a casual basis
Shifts are primarily afternoon / evening and nights. However, there will be some day shifts as part of the rota. The shifts include:

As the Project Support Worker you will join a designated Criminal Justice Approved Premises for men over the age of 18, providing support on their release from Prison or Court.
Working as the Project Support Worker you will be engage and work with residents using a range of in-house activities, enabling them to make constructive use of their time.
DUTIES
Your duties as the Project Support Worker will include:
- Engage and work with residents using a range of in-house and out-of-house activities enabling them to make constructive use of their time
- Communicate effectively with colleagues whilst on duty through accurate reading and recording electronically
- Engage and support residents on their arrival, during their stay and in preparation for move-on from the premises
- Provide information and regular updates to colleagues, Project Workers and Managers
- Liaise with other agencies to prevent crime and meet the needs of victims
- Working with colleagues to meet the needs of the residents
- Liaise with colleagues, Managers, and other agencies to prevent crime, protect victims, and maintain a stable environment for staff and residents
- Adhere to all policies and procedures
- Respect and adhere to confidential sensitive information
- Show commitment and understanding that everyone has a right to belong and engage in opportunities to reach their full potential without disadvantage or discrimination
- Promote and monitor a safe, secure, and clean environment
- Undertake any other duties, including some domestic and cooking duties appropriate to the post as required by the Manager
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Essential
- Good numeracy and literacy skills
- An understanding of safeguarding
- Able to work alone, without guidance as well as within a team
- Work on a shift which covers evenings, nights, waking nights and weekends
- Enthusiastic, imaginative, motivated and committed to working in a challenging environment
- Being empathic, with the ability to use tact and discretion when dealing with confidential and sensitive issues
- The job will require the post holder to be fully mobile as the properties are spread across a number of floors which are only accessible by stairs
Desirable
- Previous experience of working within a residential setting
- Experience of working with groups or individuals in order to support, motivate and change behaviour
- Knowledge and experience of the work within the Criminal Justice System
