The role

We are currently seeking passionate and motivated Additional Learning Needs (ALN) Teaching Assistants to work in schools across the Newport area, supporting pupils with a range of additional learning needs.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to build experience within SEN and ALN education while making a meaningful difference to pupils’ learning and development.

As an ALN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who require additional support to access the curriculum and develop key academic, social and emotional skills. You will work under the guidance of the class teacher and Additional Learning Needs Coordinator (ALNCo), providing 1:1 and small group support within the classroom. You may also contribute to individual learning plans and support strategies to help pupils engage fully in their education.

Requirements

The desired ALN Teaching Assistant will have:

  • Previous experience supporting pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) or SEN (desirable, but not essential)

  • A patient, empathetic and flexible approach to supporting learning

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • The ability to work independently and as part of a wider school team

  • A genuine passion for helping pupils achieve their full potential

  • Knowledge or experience of autism, ADHD, dyslexia or other learning differences (beneficial)

  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one (support provided)

  • Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC), or willingness to register
