Trainee Teaching Assistant – Newport

We have an excellent opportunity for a Trainee Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team in schools across the Newport area. This role offers valuable hands-on experience in alternative provision settings, working with pupils who may face challenges linked to social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH), ADHD, and anxiety.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting pupils in classroom groups as well as providing 1:1 interventions

  • Helping pupils regulate their emotions and encouraging positive behaviour

  • Creating an inclusive and calm environment where learners feel valued and safe

  • Assisting in delivering personalised strategies that promote wellbeing and academic success

  • Building strong, supportive relationships with pupils, teachers, and families

  • Encouraging communication, emotional literacy, and confidence in social situations

What We’re Looking For

  • A real interest in working with children and young people who need extra support

  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to build trust with pupils

  • A positive and proactive approach, with the determination to make a lasting difference

  • Good communication skills and willingness to work closely within a team

  • Commitment to developing a career in SEND, inclusion, or alternative provision

  • Availability Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm (term-time only)

  • Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC), or willingness to register with our support
