- Supervise pupils in the classroom, ensuring they remain on task with work set by the absent teacher.
- Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies, promoting a safe and positive learning atmosphere.
- Respond to pupils' questions and provide general assistance where appropriate, without actively teaching the lesson content.
- Report back to teaching staff on pupil progress, behaviour, and any issues arising during cover lessons.
- Support the school with additional tasks during non-cover periods, which may include:
- Administrative support
- Exam invigilation
- Supporting small group work or individual pupils under teacher direction
- Assisting with break and lunchtime duties

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage groups of pupils effectively and maintain discipline
- Adaptability and confidence in supervising across a range of subjects and year groups
- Good organisational skills and the ability to follow instructions
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils
Desirable
- Previous experience working with young people, ideally within a school environment
- Knowledge of classroom management strategies
- ICT competency for supporting learning and administration
- A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 3 Teaching Assistant, Degree, or equivalent experience)
