Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise pupils in the classroom, ensuring they remain on task with work set by the absent teacher.
  • Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies, promoting a safe and positive learning atmosphere.
  • Respond to pupils' questions and provide general assistance where appropriate, without actively teaching the lesson content.
  • Report back to teaching staff on pupil progress, behaviour, and any issues arising during cover lessons.
  • Support the school with additional tasks during non-cover periods, which may include:
    • Administrative support
    • Exam invigilation
    • Supporting small group work or individual pupils under teacher direction
    • Assisting with break and lunchtime duties

Essential

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage groups of pupils effectively and maintain discipline
  • Adaptability and confidence in supervising across a range of subjects and year groups
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to follow instructions
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils

Desirable

  • Previous experience working with young people, ideally within a school environment
  • Knowledge of classroom management strategies
  • ICT competency for supporting learning and administration
  • A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 3 Teaching Assistant, Degree, or equivalent experience)
