Primary Learning Support Assistant – Newport

Vision for Education is seeking a caring and enthusiastic Primary Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Newport. This role offers the chance to support pupils aged 3 to 11 and help shape a positive and inclusive learning environment.

About the role

As a Primary Learning Support Assistant in this inclusive school, you'll work across the Foundation Phase and Key Stage 2. Your role will involve supporting pupils with a range of additional learning needs, both in mainstream classrooms and within designated ALN settings.

This is a varied and fulfilling position where you’ll play a vital part in helping pupils feel confident, supported, and included in school life.

Your key responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with ALN

  • Encourage pupil independence and support with personal care where required

  • Assist in managing behaviour using consistent, positive strategies

  • Help prepare learning resources and support in class delivery

  • Work closely with teaching staff, parents, and other professionals

  • Promote an inclusive and respectful learning environment

Who we’re looking for

  • Someone with experience working with children or young people, ideally in education or care

  • A calm, patient, and flexible individual with a genuine passion for inclusion

  • Knowledge of ALN or an interest in learning more about inclusive strategies

  • Confidence in managing behaviour in a positive and nurturing way

  • A strong team player with good communication skills

  • A driving licence and access to transport is helpful but not essential
