We are seeking an Electrical Instillations Technician to be part of a skilled team responsible for the seamless operation of our clients high-spec manufacturing facility in Newton Aycliffe. This role offers the opportunity to work in a cleanroom-class production environment where safety, precision, and innovation are paramount.
Role Summary
The Electrical Installation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and cleanroom tools, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes, safety standards, and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, repair, and maintain electrical wiring, circuits, cleanroom tools, and fixtures in accordance with electrical codes and regulations.
- Read and interpret schematics and technical drawings to execute accurate electrical installations and repairs.
- Complete installations on schedule and ensure smooth handover to production.
- Inspect electrical systems and diagnose issues using testing equipment and tools.
- Troubleshoot electrical problems (e.g., outages, short circuits, voltage fluctuations) and implement corrective actions.
- Install and configure lighting, switches, outlets, panels, and other electrical components per manufacturer specifications.
- Perform preventive maintenance, cleaning, and inspection to ensure system reliability.
- Test systems for proper operation using diagnostic tools (multimeters, voltage testers, etc.).
- Collaborate with contractors, tradespeople, and project managers to coordinate work.
- Ensure compliance with all electrical safety regulations and standards.
- Install and maintain grounding systems, surge protection, and safety devices.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to apprentices.
- Maintain accurate work records, maintenance logs, and inspection reports (Maximo experience an advantage).
- Respond promptly to electrical emergencies and minimize operational downtime.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment, following all safety procedures.
- Manage and control HV isolation procedures in compliance with current legislation.
- Plan, coordinate, and monitor contractor/vendor work; report on progress.
- Provide technical support for maintenance and refurbishment of site DCS and PLC systems (including MCERTS equipment).
- Assist in commissioning plant equipment with process and commissioning engineers.
- Support the design of electrical systems for process and utility systems.
- Ensure stable and reliable service supply of the right quantity and quality.
Qualifications & Experience
- Completion of a recognised electrical apprenticeship programme.
- Qualified to BS 7671: 18th Edition (Requirements for Electrical Installations).
- Proven experience as an electrician in industrial or commercial environments.
- Strong knowledge of electrical codes, regulations, and safety standards.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical diagrams accurately.
- Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and diagnostic skills.
- High attention to detail and precision in installations and terminations.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
