Job Title: Multi Skilled Maintenance Technician
Contract - 6 Months
Location: Newton Aycliffe
Pay Rate: 21.96 per hour
Working Hours: Day Shift Monday to Friday
The Maintenance Technician will support the engineering function by delivering both planned preventative maintenance and reactive repair work on site machinery and equipment. Working within a fast-paced, high-speed manufacturing environment, the role is key to ensuring machinery operates at peak efficiency, safely and in compliance with quality standards.
This is a hands-on role requiring a strong background in engineering maintenance and the ability to work independently and collaboratively to resolve faults and maintain uptime.
Main Objectives, Tasks & Job Parameters
Ensure operational availability of production equipment through effective maintenance
Optimise machine performance with a focus on safety and product quality
Reduce unplanned downtime through fault diagnosis and timely repairs
Maintain accurate maintenance records in compliance with regulatory and company standards
Primary Tasks:
Perform planned preventive maintenance (PPM) as per the maintenance schedule
Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical faults quickly and effectively
Support production changeovers and assist with setup and machine adjustments
Carry out root cause analysis on recurring faults and contribute to reliability improvements
Liaise with production and engineering colleagues to resolve issues collaboratively
Follow all site Health & Safety and GMP (where applicable) protocols
Maintain appropriate tools and spares and ensure work areas are clean and safe
Candidate Qualities / Experience
A solid background in maintenance or engineering, ideally in a production or manufacturing environment
Practical experience in fault-finding and repair of industrial machinery
Ability to perform both proactive (planned) and reactive (breakdown) maintenance tasks
Relevant qualifications: NVQ, ONC, or HNC in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
Previous experience in a high-speed manufacturing setting
Familiarity with:
PLC systems (basic diagnostics)
Injection moulding machinery
Web handling and tension control systems
High-speed packaging lines
Exposure to continuous improvement / lean manufacturing initiatives
Multi-skilled (electrical and mechanical) background
17th or 18th Edition wiring regulations (for electrically biased candidates)
