HR Manager Needed: Must Love People, Problem-Solving & The Odd Paw Print.
Hafren Veterinary Group isn’t your average vet practice, and they quite like it that way. As one of only two RCVS-accredited practices in Powys, employing over 65 people, they’ve spent 135 years looking after animals and their humans across Newtown, Llanidloes, Crossgates, and Knighton.
Proudly independent, which means no micromanaging, daft corporate targets, and no head office telling everybody what to do from afar.
What they have is a friendly, hardworking team that genuinely pulls together. When it’s busy, they get stuck in. When it’s quiet, they relax. Throughout it all, they support each other, keep things human, and try to make the workday feel enjoyable, even when everything that can happen… does!
They are now looking for an HR Manager who can help keep that healthy, happy culture alive. Someone who’s got the professional credibility (yes, we need a recognised qualification), but also the warmth, humour and common sense to help people feel heard, supported and treated fairly. You’ll be supported by an external employment law solicitor, providing expert guidance when needed.
What You’ll Be Doing
This is a 2-day-a-week role, with a mix of working from home and being in the office at least one day a week, so you can actually see the people you’re supporting. Your day-to-day will involve:
- Appraisals that don’t feel like an interrogation.
- Recruitment that finds the right humans, not just the right CVs.
- Disciplinaries handled with fairness and empathy.
- Back-to-work interviews that balance policy with kindness.
- Onboarding, ensuring every new starter enjoys a smooth, welcoming start. From paperwork and equipment through to role-specific training.
- Helping managers grow their confidence and capability.
- Supporting organisational change.
- Embedding a culture of openness, kindness, and honesty.
They are after someone ambitious, flexible, and creative, someone who sees HR as more than processes and policies, and genuinely enjoys helping people do their best work.
Why Hafren?
Because independence really does make life better. Your ideas will actually be listened to. Your judgement will be trusted. And you won’t be drowned in spreadsheets created “because they’ve always done it like that.”
Plus, Mid Wales is a lovely place to spend your days, forests, cafés, local pubs, history, and more outdoor adventures than you could possibly squeeze into a weekend.
So, what’s next?
If you’re looking for an HR role where you’re valued, supported, and occasionally greeted by a wagging tail, we would love to hear from you.
