We are currently working alongside a successful manufacturing business who are looking for a HSE Lead to join their busy team. You will support the QHSE Manager and wider business team in ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards in line with legislation and company procedures. This role will actively contribute to driving change, supporting continuous improvement, and promoting a positive safety-first culture across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide operational support across all aspects of health, safety, and environment, including risk management and compliance monitoring.
- Develop, deliver, and support HSE training programmes for employees, contractors, and management, including inductions for new starters.
- Deliver training on business KPIs, including safety observations, accident, and incident reporting.
- Lead investigations into incidents, accidents, and near misses, and develop corrective and preventive action plans (CAPA).
- Maintain accurate accident statistics, categorise incidents, and conduct trend analysis.
- Prepare, collate, and review safety-related documentation such as Safety Plans, Business Contingency Plans, and training materials.
- Develop, test, and coordinate emergency response plans, including drills, equipment readiness, and team preparedness.
- Review HSE policies and procedures regularly with the QHSE Manager to ensure compliance.
- Conduct compliance audits and support the implementation of corrective actions.
- Lead the development and review of risk assessments across all business areas.
- Maintain and improve the management system, including procedures, processes, and safe systems of work.
- Actively promote a proactive quality and safety culture, including participation in the H&S committee.
- Ensure adequate First Aider and Fire Marshall cover for 24/7 operations, maintaining regular communication with them.
- Support contractor and visitor management processes.
- Liaise with government authorities, contractors, and third parties on HSE matters.
- Drive engagement and participation in HSE initiatives and programmes across the workforce.
You will have:
- Proven experience in a Health & Safety lead role (essential), preferably within an FMCG or manufacturing environment.
- NEBOSH General Certificate (essential).
- Strong knowledge of HSE legislation and best practices.
- Proficient IT skills, including MS Office, Excel, and PowerPoint (essential).
- Experience in problem-solving and root cause analysis techniques.
- Skilled in data collection, management, and analysis.
- Ability to train, coach, and develop others.
- Sound judgment, decision-making ability, and capability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Team-oriented, with the ability to contribute to wider business strategies.
