We are hiring for an Estimator

We are looking for an experienced Estimator to join our team in Northampton. This is an opportunity to work on a variety of projects across drainage, groundworks, roofing, and construction sectors. You’ll be an important part of the business, helping to ensure projects are accurately costed, competitively priced, and profitable.

Duties of an Estimator

In this role, you will be working within the estimating team to support tender submissions and project planning. You will be responsible for:

  • Preparing detailed cost estimates for civil engineering, groundworks, and drainage projects

  • Analysing drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive tenders

  • Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations

  • Conducting site visits to assess conditions and gather data for pricing

  • Collaborating with project managers and engineers to align estimates with delivery plans

  • Monitoring market trends and pricing to maintain competitive bids

  • Assisting in post-tender negotiations and value engineering exercises

  • Maintaining and updating estimating databases and tools

Skills and Experience of an Estimator

As an Estimator, you must have:

  • Proven experience working as an Estimator within the construction or drainage sector

  • Strong understanding of UK construction methods, materials, and regulations

  • Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite

  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills

  • Strong communication and negotiation abilities

  • Ability to manage multiple tenders independently

  • Full UK driving licence (preferred for site visits)

It would be beneficial if you also had:

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field

  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS, CIOB)
