About the post

Every fourth patient you meet will be challenged by mental illness.

We want you to be a great newly qualified physiotherapist for St Andrews Healthcare, but we also want you to be a champion for mental well-being wherever your career takes you in the future.

We will develop you and help you to enhance your therapeutic tool box, with skills that help you to manage a patient’s physical needs when their mental well-being becomes a barrier to their physical recovery; to help you cultivate physical techniques that bolster your patient’s emotional well-being. We will equip you with the ability to work in any physiotherapy specialism and be capable of managing serious mental illness in any setting, within your scope of practice.

Yes we want you to be a brilliant physiotherapist, but we want to help you to become more; to become a lifelong mental health champion for the here and now and for wherever you may find yourself in the future.

We are currently working with our partners in the NHS to build a rotation into this role; to give you the rounded graduate experience that you crave and to take advantage of your passion to bust stigmas in a variety of healthcare settings.

Whilst working within the charity, however, you will be responsible for providing excellent care; assessing and delivering therapeutic interventions to patients across our Northampton site, with the support of our team of specialist/highly specialist mental health physiotherapists.

Being energetic, fun (a good sense of humour is essential), bubbly, out-going, and a proactive role model is an advantage. Having a passion to think about and deliver a rounded package of engaging activities such as dance, games, challenges, etc. is essential in motivating our patients; as is being able to make a fool of yourself (our patients engage best when they see that we’re not perfect either!)

If you would like the opportunity to develop skills that will be benefit you and your patient’s throughout your career, regardless of where your career might lead, we would love to help you.

You will:

  • Be someone who exhibits our CARE values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence
  • Ability to manage a diverse caseload
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of IPU teams
  • Be passionate about patient centred care and able to demonstrate improved patient outcomes & impact
  • Have clinical experience working with male patients
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Great clinical reasoning skills
  • Be eager for a challenge and seek opportunities

Package and Benefits:

We offer an excellent benefits package including: Pension; Sickness policy on par with the NHS; Access to the Blue Light Card and Health Service Discounts schemes; 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing after 10 years' service; Buy and Sell your Annual Leave; Employee Assistance and Wellbeing Programme; Menopause Group; Life cover; Electric car lease scheme; Cycle to work scheme; Free parking; onsite gym and swimming pool facilities; Paid DBS application; Access to free vocational qualifications.
