Position Overview

We are seeking a dynamic Mixed Tax Manager with a strong corporate tax background to join our expanding practice in Northampton. This versatile role offers the opportunity to work across both corporate and personal tax matters, with a primary focus on advising owner-managed businesses, entrepreneurs, and their stakeholders. The position provides excellent exposure to complex tax planning while maintaining variety through mixed tax work.

Key Responsibilities

Corporate Tax (Primary Focus)

  • Prepare and review corporation tax computations and returns for a diverse portfolio of clients
  • Manage tax compliance for owner-managed businesses, including groups and holding companies
  • Advise on corporate tax planning strategies, reliefs, and incentives
  • Handle R&D tax credit claims and other corporate reliefs
  • Provide guidance on business restructuring, mergers, and acquisitions from a tax perspective
  • Manage corporate tax aspects of share schemes and employee incentives

Personal Tax & Mixed Matters

  • Prepare complex personal tax returns for business owners and high earners
  • Advise on the tax implications of business ownership structures
  • Handle capital gains tax planning, particularly for business disposals
  • Coordinate tax advice across corporate and personal tax matters for connected clients
  • Provide inheritance tax planning for business assets and family wealth

Client Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with business clients and their key stakeholders
  • Lead client meetings and provide clear, practical tax advice
  • Manage a mixed portfolio of corporate and personal tax clients
  • Act as primary tax contact for key client relationships
  • Collaborate with audit and advisory teams to deliver integrated solutions

Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise and develop junior tax staff across both corporate and personal tax areas
  • Review complex tax work and provide technical guidance
  • Mentor team members and support their professional development
  • Delegate work effectively while maintaining quality standards
  • Contribute to recruitment and training initiatives

Technical Excellence & Business Development

  • Stay current with corporate and personal tax legislation changes
  • Research complex tax issues and develop innovative solutions
  • Identify opportunities for additional tax services within existing relationships
  • Support business development activities and client pitches
  • Maintain relationships with professional networks and referral sources
Essential Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • ACA, ACCA, CTA, or equivalent professional qualification
  • Minimum 5-7 years of mixed tax experience with strong corporate tax background
  • Proven experience in corporation tax compliance and planning
  • Knowledge of personal tax, particularly as it relates to business owners
  • Experience with tax software systems and advanced Excel skills
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience
