Assistant Transport Manager

Temporary to Permanent opportunity

Based in Crick, Northants

£38k

Our large friendly distribution client in Crick is seeking a proactive, forward thinking individual to assist in overseeing the day to day operation of budgets and performance, customer relationships, compliance and personnel issues relating to staff.

Main tasks :

  • Minimise cost to the business by fully utilising all resources within the team.
  • Monitor and update the in house system ensuring delivery, cost and performance information is up to date.
  • Actively working to reach targets and assisting the Transport Manager if targets aren't met
  • Support the Transport Manager in ensuring that customer relationships are built on integrity and professionalism.
  • Deputise for the Transport Manager in their absence. Attending conference calls, morning meetings and acting as point of contact with the customer
  • Complete daily risk assessments of the site.
  • Review processes regularly to ensure they are current and follow best practice.
  • Monitor the fleet servicing to make sure the depot complies with client servicing requirements
  • Managing absence
  • Dealing with recruitment
  • Training and development of staff
  • Disciplinary/Grievance managing the process
  • Dealing with defective equipment, and sorting out repairs
  • Keep their Intranet up to date

Person Spec

  • GCSE grade C or above in Maths and English
  • At least 3 years experience with operations or planning within logistics
  • Good working knowledge of WTD and drivers hours regulations
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Sound IT skills
  • Excellent Communication and organisational skills
  • Sound Admin experience
  • Proactive, positive attitude
  • Able to multi task and work to tight deadlines
