Edward Jackson (Engineer) Ltd have a vacancy for someone unusual.

We are looking for a wide-ranging administrator for the role of Company Coordinator in this niche machinery manufacturing business. This is a unique opportunity to manage an established micro-business that has global reach and reputation.

The Candidate

A 'team captain' – mainly doing work on the same level as other employees but identifying day-to-day priorities and coordinating to best use people and resources. Bringing together and augmenting the existing five-strong, quiet, gentle but dedicated workforce.

For those wanting to show off personal brilliance or force of character, look elsewhere. We want someone who thrives on seeing the whole team and business succeed.

Reporting to, but also supporting the CEO; recognising that all staff have critical roles to play. Implementing existing strategy but able to work with the owner to make changes as the business evolves.

Your qualities

Your CV or cover letter must clearly show:

  • Small business experience (fewer than 20 employees)
  • Everyday bookkeeping experience
  • Experience or suitable skills for export paperwork and general administration
  • Long term commitment (5 years plus)

You must be:

  • Patient and competent with quiet ambition
  • Able to balance short- and long-term priorities and coordinate the company accordingly
  • Finely tuned to spot anomalies and potential sources or error, delay, or confusion
  • Perceptive and quick to learn
  • Able to take in and understand technical/engineering detail
  • Aware of own limitations and prepared to ask, or delegate to those who are more suited

Your Roles

This is an extremely varied position, as dictated by the size of the company. You will therefore need to be highly competent and able to grasp the main aspects of every role. Any task that is not already covered, however small, will be your responsibility.

Personal duties:

  • Machine export arrangements and paperwork
  • Bookkeeping and accounting
  • Site management e.g. arranging building and equipment maintenance, utilities, waste etc.
  • H&S and HR responsibility
  • Examples of other occasional tasks include exhibition organisation and coordination; grant applications; organisation of external marketing
  • Ensuring accuracy and attention to detail throughout the company

Management and coordination:

  • Operations management
    • Coordinating and prioritising spare parts supply and machine builds at different stages
    • Supplier relations
    • Ensuring inspection and stock systems are followed
  • Financial: prioritisation of spending
  • Coordination of customer support (spares/support information/production)
  • Develop and improve processes and systems in all business areas
