Reed Engineering are working with an amazing global company who are seeking a dedicated Project Engineer to join their Defence Contracts department. This role is crucial as the main point of contact and internal driver, responsible for planning and organising resources, identifying and resolving issues to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget and to business requirements. The ideal candidate will fully comply with the company Management Systems, incorporating Quality, Environmental and Health and Safety Requirements.  Due to the nature of the MOD contracts you must be a UK National to fulfil this role.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Plan and organise resources, identify and resolve issues to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget and to business requirements.
  • Take ownership of the project from receipt of tender file from Sales staff through to project completion.
  • Act as the main focal point for communication between the customer and operations.
  • Proactively monitor project progress, involving liaison with all stakeholders.
  • Ensure all order entry forms and business systems entries are accurate, involving identifying and correcting any errors.
  • Generate Project programmes based on Manufacturing/Engineering information, monitor progress against the programme and report on progress in a timely manner and to the customers’ requirements.
  • Organise and attend internal and customer meetings as required, including for the purpose of reviewing progress and witness testing.
  • Maintain Project Status Reports, including identifying and highlighting deviations from budget to relevant Managers.
  • Report on any perceived shortfall in product or services in a timely manner to enable corrective action to be taken.
  • Carry out other tasks as may be reasonably requested by Line Manager, that are within the role holder’s ability.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Essential:

    • GCSE Grade C or above in English & Maths (or equivalent)
    • HND or Degree qualified in Engineering or similar applicable field
    • Relevant experience in a similar Project Management role
    • Commercial awareness of the oil and gas & Defence Industry
    • Understanding of Project Management Principles
    • Good communication skills at all levels of the business, with good written and verbal communication and well-developed interpersonal skills
    • Good organisational skills with a genuine ability to multitask
    • Proactive approach and the ability to use own initiative
    • Ability to work under pressure
    • Strong management skills with the ability to assess potential candidates and developing existing staff
    • UK National
  • Desirable:

    • Project Management Qualification Prince 2 or similar
    • Experience of working within an engineering manufacturing environment
    • Understanding of Rotating Electrical Machines
    • Self-confidence to challenge in an appropriate manner when necessary
    • Drive to look at business process and identify where things could be improved and changed
