Electrical Commissioning Engineer

Our client, a high voltage electrical engineering business, is currently seeking a highly skilled Electrical Commissioning Engineer to join their dynamic team in Norwich.

This is a full-time role, working Monday to Friday based in the Norwich office. There is also overtime and weekend availability for this position.

Although this role is based at the Norwich site, there is the requirement to travel across the country, so applicants must be willing to travel. Travel, accommodation and food allowance will be provided whilst travelling.

Job Overview:

As a Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the successful implementation, testing, and maintenance of our high voltage systems, including generators, transformers, switch gear, and other power transmission and distribution equipment.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 3+ years of experience in commissioning high voltage systems, preferably in power transmission
  • and distribution. HNC desirable
  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles and high voltage equipment.
  • Understanding of relevant safety regulations and practices (e.g., NETA, IEEE, IEC).
  • Experience with testing and troubleshooting equipment, including generators, transformers, and switch gear.
  • Proficient in using specialized commissioning tools and equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills,
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and prioritize responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with design engineers to develop commissioning plans for new high voltage systems.
  • Perform on-site inspections, testing, and troubleshooting of high voltage equipment.
  • Conduct pre-commissioning checks, ensuring all necessary safety measures are in place.
  • Manage the commissioning process, adhering to project schedules and budgets.
  • Oversee installation and integration of high voltage systems, coordinating with subcontractors and project teams.
  • Conduct thorough functional and performance testing of equipment.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues during commissioning, collaborating with the design and
  • installation teams when necessary.
  • Prepare detailed commissioning reports, including documentation of test results and system performance.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to clients during the commissioning process.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and best practices for high voltage systems.
