Role Overview
A major infrastructure delivery partner is seeking a Senior Planning Engineer to support a flagship highways project in the East of England, based out of Norwich.
This is a high-impact role within a complex civil engineering environment, offering the opportunity to contribute directly to the successful planning and execution of a nationally significant road infrastructure upgrade. As part of the planning function, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring work is executed efficiently, on time, and in line with the overall programme strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, manage, and update the main project programme, tracking key milestones, deliverables, and performance indicators.
Support the integration of supplier and subcontractor schedules into the overall programme, ensuring alignment and consistency across all work streams.
Produce and maintain short-term and look-ahead programmes that support day-to-day site operations and enable effective coordination among teams.
Conduct critical path and float analysis, identifying potential schedule risks and proactively supporting the mitigation of delays.
Generate programme updates, reports, and dashboards for internal and external stakeholders, including progress assessments against key delivery targets.
Participate in collaborative planning sessions with project managers, engineers, and site teams to ensure accuracy and realism in planning outputs.
Use planning expertise to identify opportunities for improvement, drive efficiency, and reduce waste across the project life cycle.
Contribute to programme submissions and planning documentation for client and stakeholder review, including compliance with contract and reporting obligations.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
Proven experience as a Planning Engineer or Planner within the construction or infrastructure sector on large-scale highways projects.
Strong working knowledge of construction techniques, engineering principles, and planning best practices.
Proficiency in planning software such as Primavera P6 or equivalent tools.
A good understanding of NEC contracts and programme requirements under typical UK infrastructure frameworks.
The ability to analyse complex project data and communicate findings clearly and confidently to technical and non-technical audiences.
A collaborative mindset, able to work closely with multiple stakeholders across delivery and commercial teams.
