We're supporting a small, specialist SEMH therapeutic centre in Norwich in their search for a Headteacher to lead a transformative journey. This is not a traditional school environment it's a nurturing, homely centre where pupils are supported beyond education, focusing on emotional wellbeing and personal development.

About the Centre:

  • Supports pupils aged 11-16 with high levels of anxiety, often after time out of education.
  • Calm, therapeutic environment - no behavioural issues, pupils respond best to gentle, structured support.
  • Small numbers - maximum of 20 pupils, enabling genuine individualised care.
  • Pupils complete GCSEs where appropriate.
  • Experienced staff team with therapeutic approaches at the heart of their work.
  • OFSTED has recently identified significant areas for improvement - this role is an opportunity to lead meaningful change.

The Opportunity

This role would suit a leader who:

  • Is calm, emotionally intelligent, and highly empathetic.
  • Has experience in school improvement and turning around outcomes.
  • Understands SEMH needs and can work collaboratively with therapeutic professionals.
  • Can drive a long-term vision, embedding structure while preserving the centre's nurture-led ethos.
  • Values relationships and can build trust with pupils who may have disengaged from education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead school improvement with a focus on wellbeing and progress.
  • Implement strategies to regain a positive OFSTED rating.
  • Support and guide staff teams to deliver holistic, trauma-informed practice.
  • Create a safe, reassuring environment for anxious learners.
  • Ensure high-quality, personalised education pathways including GCSE outcomes.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Proven experience in school leadership, ideally Headteacher or Deputy Head.
  • Background in SEMH, alternative provision or specialist settings.
  • Skilled in working with vulnerable pupils and multi-agency teams.
