We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Laboratory Technician to lead the setup of our new ICP-MS lab and to be a senior member of our team, responsible for IRMS instruments. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in laboratory operations within the food testing industry, looking to take on a challenging and rewarding position.

Day-to-day of the role:

ICP-MS Lead Technician

  • Develop, improve, and optimise methods, including conducting validation studies.
  • Perform routine instrument maintenance and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ancillary documentation.
  • Conduct internal audits and technical method reviews.
  • Stay updated with emerging industry issues and technologies.
  • Oversee the SIRA instrument lab.
  • Handle daily laboratory tasks involving methodologies in SIRA and FTIR, including sample processing/preparation, soxhlet extractions, freeze drying, weighing, and microwave digestion.
  • Assist in scheduling batches to optimise machine efficiency and meet customer requirements.
  • Ensure all samples received are processed according to SOPs in a timely manner to optimise turnaround times.
  • Contribute to the smooth operation of the laboratory in line with standard operating procedures.
  • Collaborate with team members to meet turnaround times and aid in resource planning.
  • Maintain the laboratory and equipment through scheduled maintenance and calibration tasks, and track consumable usage to maintain stock levels.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned, with training provided.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Must have an In-depth knowledge of maintenance and troubleshooting for ICP-MS and/or IRMS.
  • Degree in a relevant field with experience working in a laboratory, preferably a food testing lab.
  • Experience with method validation to meet ISO17025 requirements.
  • Proven ability to manage the timely and cost-effective delivery of technical services/research outputs.
  • Excellent organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong IT skills and ability to handle multiple priorities calmly.
